QUEBEC WATERFRONT REVITALIZATION, Quebec I CN
The latest call for a proposal to reimagine the St. Lawrence Riverfront in Quebec is part of a four-phase competition series hosted by the Commission de la capitale nationale du Québec, aimed at enhancing the city and its surroundings. All four phases emphasize the environmental, public, urban, and sustainable dimensions of any proposed intervention. Currently separated from the beautiful waterfront by an eight-lane highway, the project site presents numerous challenges that must be addressed at both the urban and micro scales.
Selected as the 2nd prize winner, our proposal aims to reimagine peri-urban mobility modes and diversify the peripheral fabrics of the city of Quebec. It is an honor to have been chosen among many powerful ideas and to receive recognition for an approach that is both sensible and sensitive.
The masterplan establishes a continuous linear park linking neighborhoods, waterways, and historic sites. Public spaces emerge along this framework as catalysts for local identity: plazas, gardens, and pavilions that host community life throughout the seasons.
Each element is conceived as part of a broader ecological strategy — integrating stormwater management, native vegetation, and pedestrian mobility.
The design approach balances urban renewal with environmental restoration. It softens the interface between city and water, turning a fragmented industrial edge into a resilient and inclusive territory.
Through its layered scales — from landscape to architecture — Québec Waterfront Revitalization proposes a new dialogue between nature, culture, and the urban condition.
