CULTURAL CENTER, Quebec I CN
Located in a former railway village on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, the project transforms an existing heritage house into a new cultural hub for the local community. The intervention preserves the familiar domestic silhouette of the original structure while extending it with a light, transparent volume that opens to the public realm.
The design juxtaposes tradition and modernity — retaining the warmth and scale of vernacular architecture while introducing new layers of transparency, accessibility, and social interaction. The addition, built in timber and glass, creates visual continuity between interior and exterior, making the cultural center a living space for gathering, learning, and exchange.
Beyond its architectural gesture, the project acts as a catalyst for the village’s renewal. It reconnects the historic fabric with contemporary life, celebrating both memory and reinvention.
Rooted in its context, the Cultural Center, Québec, embodies Re-A.D Architecture’s commitment to adaptive reuse and to architecture as a bridge between community, heritage, and landscape.
